Handover of Stella Moon on 3rd April, 2010
The country's one of the leading shipbuilding companies, Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd, on Saturday handed over an oceangoing ship "Stella Moon" to Danish buyer Stella Shipping.
Ananda group chairman Abdullahel Bari handed over the 2,900 tonne capacity ship worth $7.5 million to Stella Shipping company representative captain Michael Sorensen at Chittagong port dry-dock.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan MP said this while addressing as chief guest the handing over ceremony of the multipurpose vessel "Stella Moon" to its owners Stella Shipping of Denmark.
Chairman of Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Limited Dr. Abdullahel Bari presided over the handing over ceremony. Local lawmaker MA Latif, Secretary of Shipping Ministry Abdul Mannan Hawladar, Managing Director of Chittagong Dry Dock Limited Engr. Enamul Baqui, representative of Stella Shipping of Denmark, owner of the Stella Moon, Capt. Michael Soerensen, Deputy Country Manager of Germanischer Lloyd Bangladesh Limited MM Karim and Managing Director of Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Limited Afruja Bari spoke on the occasion.
Shahjahan Khan said the company had set a milestone in the country's ship export sector, exporting its first oceangoing ship "Stella Maris" to the same company on May 15, 2008.
Mentioning his government's commitment to flourish the potential ship building sector the minister assured of all out support to turn it world class ship exporting sector.
The minister also mentioned that the industry now enjoys some benefits which include five percent cash incentives for exports, duty-free bonded facilities for importing raw materials and green channel facility to offload those directly at shipyards.
